I captured this photo two months, to the day, after my mother's funeral. I know this story — there are others all around but the solitary tree keeps them at a distance. So many people reached out to me after Mama passed away. However, except for the first few days when I was in shock, I refused to see anyone for over a month. I normally talk a lot and am an open book but this level of grief was new and I needed space. I'm forever grateful to the people in my life who gave me that space and then welcomed me back with open arms when I was ready.
